Quick answer
If your dog thrives on animal protein and you want a grain-inclusive kibble with freeze-dried raw chunks, choose RawMix Open Prairie. If you prefer a completely plant-based diet without any animal ingredients, go with Kind Earth Plant-Based Kibble.
Protein source and diet philosophy
The biggest difference between these two kibbles is the protein source. RawMix Open Prairie uses a multi-animal protein blend of humanely raised chicken and turkey, plus chicken bone broth and freeze-dried raw coating. Kind Earth Plant-Based Kibble delivers 100% plant-powered protein from ingredients like sweet potato, fava beans, and whole grain barley—no animals involved.
This means your choice comes down to whether you want to include animal products or avoid them entirely. Both are complete and balanced, but they serve very different dietary philosophies.
Texture and eating experience
RawMix Open Prairie includes bonus freeze-dried raw chunks mixed into the kibble, which adds a protein-packed boost and a varied texture that many dogs find exciting. Kind Earth Plant-Based Kibble is a uniform kibble without raw pieces, so it offers a consistent texture throughout.
If your dog is a picky eater or enjoys variety in their bowl, the freeze-dried chunks in RawMix might be more appealing. For dogs that prefer a straightforward, uniform kibble, Kind Earth is simpler.
Grain inclusion and digestibility
Both recipes include grains, but in different forms. RawMix Open Prairie features nutrient-dense ancient grains and superfoods like pumpkin, which support digestion and provide sustained energy. Kind Earth Plant-Based Kibble uses whole grain barley as a key ingredient, also a source of fiber and nutrients.
Neither is grain-free, so both are suitable for dogs that tolerate grains well. If your dog has specific grain sensitivities, consult your vet before choosing either.
